From the western civilization birthplace---Israel, our American professor, Banai, is really quite mysterious to us, Chinese students when he entered our classroom the first time. His gentle voice and wise mind never tried to leave his audience when we enjoyed the lecture. I’m sure it will be fairly interesting for you to learn more about our foreign friend as well as professor.
Here we go, come close to Banai.
The First time come to China in 1998:
The question “When did you first time come to China?” naturally became the beginning of our interview with Banai. In order to perfect his professor training on International Business and assist to implement the collaborative education between Queen’s College and USST, the year 1998 became his virgin adventure year in China. As he said, he also wanted to learn something about China. And the theory in his mind that if you want to learn about some place , then you should go there anyway in person drives him to leave his footprint in China since 1998. Being able to meet and talk the people in China personally is a keystone to really know about China I always believed. And we also luckily gain a wise way to absorb the up-to-date knowledge from this guy. Of course. Chinese famous food and marvelous culture is another irresistible temptation. “I will try everything---the real Chinese food.” He acclaimed exhilaratingly.
A brilliant future is destiny to China:
Like most common Americans, even a faint figuration about real China seldom occurs to him before his arriving here. But after that, the words “open-minded, strong economy power and well-prepared” find their way out of from his mouth. And the most impressive thing he emphasized many times is that Chinese is fast learning. We open our mind and eagerly take in every advanced technology to build our homeland. To 2003, surprising is filled with every time he came to China. The super high speed of development here, he said, will absolutely drive Chinese economy to be the leader of the world. He also talked about some other fields of development of economy in China, say, Sports---Formula One (F1), Joint venture---Chinese managers and MBA degree to business. All in all, in his opinion, China dooms to have bright future.
Not have bad students but only bad teachers & Students of USST is one of the best:
When we let Banai a comparison between Chinese students and American students, He refer to the fact that after he had taught the students from Britain, Australia, Russia, China and U.S, he believe there are forever not any bad students, there are only bad teachers. Every student can be excellent as long as gain enough opportunities and challenges from teacher. In the talk, he especially emphasized the fact, which we must write down, that our USST students are not less competitive than other top class university in China, such as Fudan, Jiaotong and Beking University. He considered it as a mistaken that students here always look down upon themselves. According to his experience of teaching students from these schools above, our good-preparation and competition leave a deep impression in his mind. And it was never ever by chance that the SIFE group of USST won the champion in Chinese region. We ought to feel anything but depression. We can be the top class.
When it comes to the Chinese Education System, he made his words that changing the situation that Chinese schools only concentrate on the mark of test needs a long time, for it is difficult to completely change the behavior of a generation rapidly. But it is great that change is under its way as we can see. Collaborative Education not only in our school but in other universities as well is just an excellent beginning to Chinese education, he thought.
